Should Hackett Run Against Dewine? (poll)

I just read this on PoliticalWire and thought that Hackett's name could now be added to this short list of potential candidates.

Maybe he doesn't have the experience for the Senate, you say. Perhaps. But I think the momentum of his campaign, as well as his now-national name recognition, would make him a very formidible senate candidate.

What are your thoughts?

Hackett for Secretary of State (none / 0)

assuming Sherrod Brown runs against DeWine, we need a good candidate for Ohio SoS.

Hackett's experience fits best in a Federal office (none / 0)

Hackett's resume suits a run for Federal office better than a state office.

Definitly if Ryan and Brown decide not to run. . . (none / 0)

Maybe if one of either Tim Ryan or Sherrod Brown decides to run.

Yes, if Brown doesn't run (3.00 / 1)

But he has to test the waters in other parts of the state first.  The Dem nominee should do well in the cities.  The question is, Can he replicate his relative success in OH-2 in other districts with a GOP voter registration advantage?

Question 2, can he raise the cash needed for a Senate run, which is a whole different ball of wax than a House seat.  He could be a very different candidate if he has to spend a long time on the phone dialing for dollars.

Question 3, will Chuck Schumer and the DSCC step up and support him in a substantial way if he gets the nomination?  I hope the answer is yes, but you can't always count on it.  Did Fingerhut get DC cash and other resources?

I think what Major Hackett has going for him is the ability to mop up the votes of those discontented with the Chickenhawk in Chief.  That's the foil we want.  AWOL Bush, chickenhawk "other priorities" Cheney, and their lackey DeWine on one side and American patriot Major Paul Hackett on the other.

How sweet would it be to upset incumbents in Pennsylvania and Ohio in the same year.

Re: Yes, if Brown doesn't run (none / 0)

Yes, the fundraising required for a senate run is hugely different than a (relatively) cheap house run.

Hackett would be a shoe-in for the nomination should the other candidates decide not to run, and it appears to me that Brown, at least, has shown some timidity when it comes to taking on Dewine, but perhaps this is a false impression (I live in New York and don't really know Brown).

We need as many firebrands as we can get, these days. Hackett is truly a breath of freash air after all the mealy-mouthed behavior of certain Dems (cough*Biden*cough).

I think Hackett should at least consider a run; I'm sure the thought has crossed his mind.

Washington-itis (none / 0)

What is the problem with the Dems here in Ohio?  Every time we get a half way decent candidate we try to send him to DC.  If Major Hackett decides to remain in Ohio and not go back to Iraq then I would like to see him in a down ballot statewide race such as Attorney General.
Schumer needs to break Sherrod's leg or something to make him run for Senate.  Now is the time.  That would give us a great lineup, Brown for Senate, Strickland for Governor, Hackett for AG and Coleman for S of S.  Blue Ohio 2006
